New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has become known for two things; fighting, and getting ejected for bad hits. Tonight he made a legal hit on a Senators forward and then refused to drop the gloves afterwards.

The play came just minutes into the game. Senators fans were perhaps hoping he would drop the gloves with Zach Ostapchuk, but the rookie was a late scratch. Instead, he has to deal with Boko Imama, who tried to get him to tussle. This came after Rempe made a hit on Zach MacEwan in the neutral zone, but it was far from his biggest hit in the NHL and it wasn't dirty either.

Earlier this season, Rempe probably would have dropped the gloves right away, and he probably would have done well in a fight against the 6'1" Imama. However, he has added an element of restraint to his game, which he showcased by ignoring the Senators enforcer.

Playing it smart early.
That being said, the game is far from over so Rempe will likely have plenty of chances to fight again should he change his mind.
