The Toronto Maple Leafs played against the New Jersey Devils tonight. Late in the game, Max Domi dropped the gloves with Simon Nemec after the Devils defenseman gave Auston Matthews some trouble.

The fight came as the Leafs ultimately fell 6-5 to the Devils, wasting another fantastic performance from Auston Matthews, who recorded his 67th and 68th goals of the season in the contest. The NHL's top goal scorer was going for the hat trick late in the game, which would have forced overtime. However, the goal would not come. That being said, fans in attendance got a treat with the fight.
Max Domi didn't like seeing Auston Matthews tied up with Simon Nemec so he handled it himself 😳
The fight was Domi's 6th of the season, extending his career high. Prior to this year, the center had not been involved in more than four fights in a single season.
Max Domi's 6 fights as a Toronto Maple Leaf are his most in any season.
Domi's father Tie was a notorious enforcer, but he has not shown the approval for his son fighting that one might expect. He was in attendance again tonight and did not appear to be thrilled about the fight. He has gone on record to say that he would prefer Max fight less, but that's the nature of hockey. Hopefully, the Leafs will rebound in their next game as they look to close out the season on a high note.
