Stamkos has been with the Lightning his entire career, from draft day to Stanley Cup finals and everything in between. He has over 1000 NHL regular season games with the team and more than 1100 points. He's been the team's captain for seemingly countless years. Now according to one of his former teammates, it could all be coming to an end.
There was drama at the beginning of the season when Stamkos reported to training camp, revealing that he had not gotten a contract offer from the team. It seems that relationship has been permanently damaged as now one of Stamkos' former teammates has implied that he might not return, regardless of what the team wants.
Killorn's comments come at a rather interesting time in the Stamkos-Lightning saga. Not only are we just days away from the end of the regular season, but a report came out earlier today that indicated that Stamkos's future with the organization is still very much in doubt.
It is hard to understate how much Stamkos has meant to the Lightning over the years. It is even harder to imagine the team without him next year. It would be one thing is he retires, but at 33-years-old, he's shown he's more than capable of playing still with over a point-per-game this season. Should he find his way to a new team next season, that could be a dagger in the heart of countless Lightning fans.
