Mattias Ekholm of the Edmonton Oilers injured Mikko Rantanen of the Colorado Avalanche with a solid hit last night in a game.
Every game that features top talents like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, promises to be an exciting matchup, and that's exactly what happened yesterday.
However, the excitement took a downturn in the second period. Rantanen was knocked down by a heavy hit from Ekholm while he was trying to play the puck. The hit itself wasn't as dangerous as the way that Rantanen fell on the boards.
It was a tough scene as Rantanen struggled to get up and eventually had to be helped off the ice to the locker room. Despite this, Ekholm wasn't penalized, but Jack Johnson, who came to Rantanen's defense, ended up with a two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Unfortunately, the Avs' head coach, Jared Bednar, confirmed that Rantanen will be under evaluation for "awhile":

Rantanen is one of the best players on that talent-packed lineup, and any time missed is a big deal. With only five games remaining to the Avs' season, don't be surprised if he doesn't come back before the start of the playoffs.
