The Oilers dropped game five to the Canucks in dramatic fashion last night. Just when everyone thought the game was going to overtime, JT Miller scored the game-winning goal with a tick under 32 seconds left, essentially the exact opposite of what happened in game four. This puts the Oilers on the brink of elimination, which is not helped by the fact that both Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman are reportedly dealing with injuries.
We will certainly not learn about any injuries the Oilers players are dealing with until their season ends, which could be as soon as tomorrow, as they are set to host the Canucks for game six. However, many fans will likely point to this play that happened at the end of game three, when McDavid was cross checked by two Canucks players simultaneously, leading to a scary looking incident. As for Hyman, it is hard to say what he might be dealing with.
It is notable that McDavid has not appeared to be himself over the last couple of games. In game five, he was a -2 and failed to record a single point, a very rare occurrence for the world's best player. In general, his performances have gotten worse the longer the playoffs have gone on, which would make since if he is dealing with lingering injuries.
be sure to tune in tomorrow night to see if McDavid and the Oilers will keep their season alive, or if the Canucks will advance to the Western Conference final for the first time since 2011, when they famously lost to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final.
