A Swedish hockey player is very lucky today after he was accidentally kicked in the face by an opposing player. While the skate made contact with his head, the blade miraculously missed him entirely.

As we all know, hockey is a dangerous sport. We have been reminded of this all too often over the years. Today though one player avoided what could have been a very serious injury.

Swedish Player Survives Kick To The Face Completely Unharmed

The play occurred in a HockeyAllsvenskan match, the second tier pro league in Sweden. Viktor Lodin of Oskarshamn IK went to make a simple hit along the end boards when his teammate Nick Olsen accidentally became friendly fire. Lodin did not hit him, but the player he did hit fell forward, with his leg kicking up behind him, clipping Olsen squarely in the face.
Luckily, Olsen came out of the play a bit dazed on confused, but nothing he couldn't play through.
Nick Olesen of Oskarshamn in SHL takes a skate to the face. He was okay.
After the game, Olsen commented on the play, noting how lucky he was things didn't go worse for him.
"It happens so fast that I didn't realize what happened first. It was the tip of the skate that hit my face and not the blade.

I was lucky. Very, very lucky."

Skate related injuries have become a hot topic of discussion this season after EIHL player and former Pittsburgh Penguin Adam Johnson passed away after taking a skate to the neck earlier this year. The incident has lead to many players voluntarily wearing additional protective equipment while some leagues have made cut-resistant neck and wrist wear mandatory.
