Top Canadiens goalie prospect to undergo major surgery after shoulder injury

The team did not reveal any further details regarding the procedure, but it is presumed that he suffered the injury during offseason training as he was absent to the start of prospect camp.

The timing of this injury is quite unfortunate for the young goalie as he will be missing the beginning of the season at the very least. However, it could have been much worse. Miller currently plays for the Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL, the host team for the Memorial cup this year. Since he has the entire season to heal, he should be ready to go by the time the memorial cup tournament kicks off.

According to Elite Prospects, he is expected to return mid-march which would be in time for the CHL playoffs. This will be especially important for the team as Miller was a big part of their success late last season. After being acquired in a trade from the Quebec Remparts, Miller put up a 10-4 record along with a .917 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against-average. While it is a fairly small sample size, numbers like those are almost unheard off in the QMJHL, which is a good sign for the prospect.

Meanwhile, Rimouski made a deal to acquire goaltender Samuel St-Hilaire from the Sherbrooke Phoenix to fill in for Miller until he can return from his injury. Hopefully the team will still be good enough to qualify for the CHL playoffs even in Miller's absence, but as they are the host city for the Memorial Cup, their status for the ultimate tournament in Canadian junior hockey remains intact, no matter what.
