In heartbreaking news, a former OHL player has just passed away at the young age of 39 after a battle with cancer.
Giallonardo Passes Away at 39 After Battle With Cancer
Terrible news has struck the hockey world today, as the Ontario Hockey League announced that alumnus Paul Giallonardo passed away on Sunday night after a battle with cancer.
"The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of an alumnus gone far too soon. Former Windsor Spitfires defenceman Paul Giallonardo passed on Sunday night following a battle with cancer. He was just 39 years-old." The OHL said.
Giallonardo spent his entire career in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires, putting up 91 points in 247 career games. After, he went on to play hockey at St. Thomas University for three seasons.
Our Thoughts Are With Giallonardo and His Family
Giallonardo went on to play hockey in Europe for Alleghe and appeared in 46 games before announcing his retirement in 2009.
