Mid-game, it looked like the Flyers were about to score, but the referee called it off for goaltender interference. After watching the replay a few times, it's hard to see how there was any interference on Cayden Primeau, who was in net for Montreal at the time.
Sure, it's just preseason, so everyone-including the refs-is rusty. Primeau got the benefit of the doubt on this one, keeping the Flyers off the board and stopping 13 shots before Jakub Dobes took over, shutting down the remaining 12 to seal a 5-0 win for Montreal.
The Habs broke through the Flyers' defense in the third period, netting four goals from David Savard, Emil Heinman, Josh Anderson, Alex Barret-Boulet to blow the game wide open.
Flyers fans didn't take it well, though. After seeing that call go against their team, many were ready to unload on the refs. Goaltender interference is always a hot topic in the NHL because it's such a tough call to make, and every zebra seems to have their own interpretation.
Hopefully, this gets sorted out before the regular season starts. No one wants to see calls like this deciding regular season or Stanley Cup Playoff games. Hope the stripes pull it together like the players are through exhibition games.
