Former Maple Leafs forward Alexander Barabanov has officially left North America for good after he signed a new deal with a KHL club.

The Former Leaf signed a two-year deal with AK Bars Kazan of the KHL today after his level of play in the NHL began to drop off.
After 4 seasons in the NHL (107 PTS in 206 GP), 30-year-old forward Alexander Barabanov returns home.
Last season, Barabanov recorded just 13 points and got into just 46 games on the league-worst San Jose Sharks. The previous season, he set career highs with 15 goals and 47 points in just 68 games.

Barabanov had 13 points in 46 games with the #SJSharks last year.
Barabanov got into just 35 games with the Leafs split between two seasons before he was traded to the Sharks. In those games, he recorded just 3 goals and 9 points. However, when he got to San Jose, he quickly became a fan favorite. Barabanov, or "Barbie," as Sharks fans call him, was regularly in the middle of clutch situations throughout his tenure with the Sharks. Among his best moments with the team was this shootout winner against the Minnesota Wild.

He also scored one of the most clutch goals of the 2021-22 season as he forced overtime against the Vancouver Canucks with a buzzer beater.

Sadly, there will be no more clutch moments like these in Barabanov's future, at least not in the NHL.
