In a 1-0 series led by the Colorado Avalanche the Dallas Stars were looking to stay in the series in Game 2. Trying to give his team a jump Jamie Benn went flying into the corner and laid a huge hit on Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews. The hit caused a lot of controversy as many thought it should've been a penalty for a hit to the head.
Immediately after the hit, there was a discussion about a potential penalty. Eventually, it was decided no penalty would be called. This call by the officials caused outrage on social media with the fans invested in the game.
The complaints by the fans were echoed by the Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar. However, Jared Bednar picked his words more carefully so he would not face a fine for complaining about the officiating.
With no penalty called, there will be no extra discipline given to Jamie Benn for the hit. As the series goes on it will be interesting to see if the Colorado Avalanche try to police the incident and target Jamie Benn either through hits or a fight challenge in future games.
