Trying to give his team a jump Jamie Benn went flying into the corner and laid a huge hit on Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews. The hit caused a lot of controversy as many thought it should've been a penalty for a hit to the head.

The complaints by the fans were echoed by the Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar. However, Jared Bednar picked his words more carefully so he would not face a fine for complaining about the officiating.
Toews is fine. I don't know. It's a physical game. It's a physical player. I don't know. I don't know what to say. I mean does he catch a piece of his shoulder? Yeah I guess you could argue that. But the target is high and it's at his head and he makes contact with his head.
With no penalty called, there will be no extra discipline given to Jamie Benn for the hit. As the series goes on it will be interesting to see if the Colorado Avalanche try to police the incident and target Jamie Benn either through hits or a fight challenge in future games.
