Earlier today, it was confirmed that Johnny Gaudreau, the Columbus Blue Jackets forward, and his younger brother Matthew Gaudreau, a former professional player, tragically lost their lives in a horrific accident.

The Gaudreau brothers were hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes in Salem County, New Jersey.
For those who knew them personally, like Johnny's close friend Sean Monahan, the loss is even harder to grasp. Monahan, who signed a five-year contract earlier this season, had been looking forward to reuniting with Johnny on the ice.
They were teammates for nine seasons with the Calgary Flames, creating a memorable duo that consistently delivered on the scoreboard.
Just days ago, Monahan had talked about how thrilled he was to play alongside "Johnny Hockey" again.
I was really looking forward to being teammates with Johnny again. He was motivated to have a big season and be a huge part of the team, and I was excited to reignite the chemistry we had for close to a decade.
Now, instead of sharing the ice, Monahan and all of us are sharing in the heartbreak of this loss.
Our hearts go out to Johnny's wife Meredith, their two young children, Noa and Johnny, his parents Guy and Jane, and his sisters Kristen and Katie. We also send our condolences to Matthew's wife Madeline and baby Tripp and ask those who are able to donate to their GoFundMe page. Others NHL have begun the trend with a $1,000 donation, as a testament to when Gaudreau donated that amount for every point he recorded last season to help support his teammate Patrik Laine's mental health issues.
This tragedy is beyond words, and we stand with everyone who is mourning the loss of two incredible people.
