Steve Simmons calls out Ron MacLean for hosting Rogers segment

For those who follow Toronto Sun journalist Steve Simmons closely, it's no surprise that he didn't hold back when it came to Ron MacLean's recent appearance alongside Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri and executive chairman Edward Rogers.
Simmons, known for his sharp takes and unapologetic style, called out MacLean for participating in what he referred to as an "embarrassing infomercial" following the Rogers buyout of Bell Media's stake in Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment.
Ron MacLean should have said no. But clearly, his own self-respect has disappeared over time. He didn't have to participate in that dog-and-pony show interview with Ed Rogers and Tony Staffieri after the huge sale at MLSE.
He's never been one to sugarcoat things, and in this case, he's tapping into a sentiment many seem to be feeling toward MacLean. The once admired commentator seemed unprepared and according to Simmons was unprofessional in a pivotal career moment.
Ever since MacLean didn't publicly support his longtime partner Don Cherry after Cherry was let go, MacLean has been walking a fine line in the court of public opinion. Even his attempt to celebrate Cherry's birthday was met with backlash, with Cherry's son accusing him of being disingenuous and ruining his father's special day.
For Simmons' readers, it's refreshing to see someone call things as they see it It's clear that Simmons isn't afraid to point out when someone in the hockey world has lost their way, and MacLean is the latest victim.
