The biggest story of the NHL season thus far has been the relocation of the Arizona Coyotes to Salt Lake City, and now we've seen major traction on a name.

Despite all of the misery in Arizona after the Coyotes final home game a night ago, things are moving fast in the NHL, with the excitement building for the NHL in Salt Lake City for the first time. All over the internet, there's been some amazing name suggestions for new owner Ryan Smith, and today, we got a major update on potential branding.
Ryan Smith won't rush into a new team name. It will be Utah as opposed to Salt Lake City in the team name, that much has been decided. But as far as the nickname, SEG will take their time with it, even if it means starting next season without new nickname...
Given how much time the NHL needs for branding and uniforms, they may be running out of time to pick a nickname, and if not, they'll be like the Washington Commanders, who began their rebuild as the Washington Football Team for a season.
The new team will be called "Utah" rather than "Salt Lake City."

Don't expect a mascot and official team nickname until Season 2 of the franchise. NHL wants the team to have plenty of time to get it right.

Just "Utah?"

"Utah HC?"

We could know tomorrow, with colors next week.

The only confirmation we've got thus far is that the team will go by Utah, rather than Salt Lake City, so for now, we wait and see what the result will be.
