The Boston Bruins were expected to lock Jeremy Swayman into a big deal this summer, but it appears the team aren't looking to pay him like a top goalie.
This off-season has been very intriguing for the Boston Bruins, as the team traded away Linus Ullmark, breaking up their elite goaltending tandem and essentially signalling to the world that Jeremy Swayman is the man moving forward. However, a recent report from Ryan Whitney of Spittin Chiclets has revealed that the team aren't looking to pay him as such.
The reported offer to Swayman was four-years, $6.2 million AAV, and while that's not a bad number, it would come in at under $4 million behind some of the league's top goaltenders, something that Swayman clearly believes he is. Now, a report from Elliotte Friedman reveals just how far the two sides are apart, as he reports Swayman is looking for at least the Charlie McAvoy contract.
That contract was eight-years, $9.5 million AAV, and while Swayman may not be worth all of that now, he's only just coming into his prime at 25-years of age, and will get better as time goes on. It's unclear how much either party is willing to budge on their stance at this point, but if something doesn't change, the Bruins risk going into the 2024/25 regular season with Joonas Korpisalo as their starter, and nobody in Boston wants to see that, so expect something to change soon.
