Matthew Tkachuk reveals Darryl Sutter contacted him immediately after Stanely Cup win

On a recent appearance on the Cam and Strick podcast, Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk looked back on some lessons learned from last year's playoff run. Perhaps most notably, however, came when the young forward discussed his former Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter. According to Tkachuk, Sutter was among the very first to reach out to him following the Panthers' Stanley Cup win.

He even admitted that after getting embarrassed in game six by the Edmonton Oilers, who came back after trailing 3-0 in the series, indeed there was a players-only meeting. The Panthers were teetering on the edge of a disastrous collapse, with the very real possibility of becoming an embarrassment league-wide if they couldn't clinch game seven. Surprisingly, Matthew Tkachuk added that his biggest frustration wasn't the situation, but to have to go back to Edmonton for the next game because he's not a big fan of the city.

Matthew Tkachuk also shared one of the lighter moments from their second-round matchup against the Boston Bruins. In an extremely rare NHL moment, Bruins' star David Pastrnak dropped the gloves with Tkachuk for just the second fight of his career. Tkachuk said that, given how much the team needs him, Pastrnak seemed like he was seeking permission from head coach Jim Montgomery to have his dust-up. Tkachuk even informed his own coach, Paul Maurice, that he was going back on the ice the next shift to scrap, with Florida shorthanded and Tkachuk not usually a regular on the kill.
