The Rangers and Sabres both kicked off their seasons tonight and the New York state rivals were quick to introduce themselves with physical play. Late in the 1st period, Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin made his presence known.
The Rangers built a quick 2-0 lead on the Sabres in their season opener. As a result, the Sabres were looking to make a statement. When they struggled to find the back of the net, Rasmus Dahlin chose to take the body instead. He made a low hit on Filip Chytil, who was sent flying over the defenseman in a dramatic fashion thanks to his momentum.
The Sabres currently own the NHL record for longest active playoff drought. They last made the playoffs over a decade ago in the 2010-11 season. As a result, the team is looking to end their bad luck and compete for a Stanley Cup once again. Expectations have not been this high for Buffalo in a very long time.
