It's going to happen sometime this week. Patrick Kane will sign with the Buffalo Sabres; two year deal in the $3.5-$4M per season range.
Kane was heavily rumoured to be looking at the Sabres since it is his hometown. With his extended stay in Toronto for training, the decision to sign in Buffalo makes sense, as it isn't too far from where he was completing his rehab for his injury.
Does a Multi-Year Kane Contract Hurt the Sabres in the Long Run?
While any team, including the Sabres, would benefit from having Kane on their roster, a multi-year deal might actually hurt the Sabres in the long run. They will have to figure out which of their prospects they no longer have room for, since Kane is likely a bottom-6 contributor. This could hurt their development in the long run, while Kane is likely only going to play for a few more years.
Patrick Kane will sign a two-year deal with Buffalo per @Ade780. Kane had a below-average season last year. However, he still should be capable to score at 0.7 PPG rate or something like that. But with that defense, yikes. Two-year contract is not ideal from Sabres' perspective.
Another reminder that a multi year deal for Patrick Kane will 100% block out a path for one of Buffalo's 1st round prospects who aren't that far from being NHL ready
