With the puck flying all over the ice, it's a shock that more players don't leave games after taking one to the face, but unfortunately, that's what happened to Owen Power on Sunday.
The young defenseman was simply looking to cut off a pass from behind his net when the puck was flipped straight into his face, with the 21-year old exiting the ice immediately. It's unlikely that this will result in a serious injury, as we've seen it plenty of times before, but after a while, it wouldn't be a shock if the NHL looked to improve on player protections for the face.
The Sabres still trail the Red Wings 3-1 with the game going deep into the third period, but for now, we simply hope that Power is okay and can get back on the ice for the remainder of his second full season in the NHL.
