The Calgary Flames 2022-23 season was a nightmare on and off the ice, and while there were many reasons for this, veteran coach Darryl Sutter was seemingly the biggest of all.
An emerging young forward
Last season saw the infusion of a few young names for the Calgary Flames, but none found more success than Jakob Pelletier, who emerged as a genuine top-six option and a ball of positive energy for Calgary.

In 24 games, Pelletier scored just 3 goals and had 7 assists, but given Sutter's anemic offensive game planning and just how defeated the team were around him, he showed plenty of promise.
A shot at a departed coach
While many saw the positives, Sutter was once again his sarcastic self during interviews, including one moment when he was asked what he thought of Pelletier's debut. In response, Sutter asked the reporter "Pelletier, what number is he?"
It was a small thing from the outside looking in, but for Flames fans, it felt incredibly disrespectful to a young talent, and now, Pelletier, rocking a new number had a joke about the situation now that Sutter is gone.
Flames forward Jakob Pelletier with the line of the day (and a gentle dig at the old boss): "I think it's easier for the coaches to know the no.22 to the no.49. It's a joke. Just kidding, just kidding.
Pelletier is becoming one of Calgary's most likeable players for their fans, and this one will endear him to fans even more as they look to bounce back without the veteran Sutter now holding them back.
