The 2023/24 NHL season was full of drama, and no one was involved quite as much as veteran Corey Perry, who went from having his contract terminated to playing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Now, the 39-year old has inked a one-year extension in Edmonton to chase the Cup once more, but his past drama still looms over his head, with Mark Lazarus of The Athletic recently bringing that up in a recent article.
While he didn't go into further detail, Lazarus did reveal that he knows more than the public, and finishes his statement on the situation by questioning the Oilers, and asking whether or not they truly know the whole story. Many of the rumours surrounding this situation have been dispelled in recent months, but there's still not a clear picture of exactly what happened, and by the sounds of it, if the full story ever did come out, it wouldn't look favourably upon Perry.
Ultimately, we may never know what transpired to get Perry's contract terminated in Chicago, but with the Oilers recently hiring Stan Bowman and his checkered past, it's safe to say that they may one day have plenty of questions to answer.
