Kirill Kaprizov has been a star from the moment he entered the NHL, but playing in Minnesota, he hardly gets the praise that he deserves after tallying an impressive 330 points in 278 games played thus far. Now, he may be looking to change that, as a report from The Athletic has revealed that dating back as far as the 2024 NHL Draft, the former fifth-round draft pick has made it clear he wants to join the Chicago Blackhawks.
Although Kaprizov has found solid success in Minnesota, the team are yet to win a Stanley Cup Playoffs series during his tenure, and at 27-years old, he'll be right in line for a massive contract in the summer of 2026. Currently, the Russian winger earns $9 million per season with the Wild, and not only will he be getting a massive upgrade in free agency, this move would also allow him to play with superstar Connor Bedard, someone the Blackhawks hope can become a major selling point to free agents.
This rumour started back in the 2024 NHL Draft when the Blackhawks landed another potential star in Artyom Levshunov, and with so much young talent coming through the organization, landing a star like Kaprizov would speed up this rebuild to its end if the team continue building the right way. Obviously, plenty can change between now and the summer of 2026, but unless Minnesota can have some success on the biggest stage, it makes sense for Kaprizov to want out, and Chicago seems to be as good a landing spot as any.
