The true reason behind why Patrik Laine hasn't been traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets yet has been revealed and it's frustrated suitors including the Montreal Canadiens.

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is one of the few NHL GMs with the cap space to take on disgruntled forward Patrik Laine's $8.7 million per year salary for the next two seasons.
The true reason behind the blockage of the Patrik Laine trade to MTL is revealed
Hughes is in the market for a young scorer, and Laine fits that bill perfectly. However, a few issues are stalling the trade. Columbus isn't keen on retaining any of Laine's salary, which complicates things given his hefty cap hit and the Blue Jackets have high demands for Laine, making negotiations tough.
Patrik Laine «wants a fresh start» and both sides are working on a trade
However, the biggest obstacle is Laine remaining in the NHL's player assistance program. Columbus isn't sure if he's been authorized to leave the program and Laine isn't allowed to speak with the Habs as he's not playing for his own side.
Trading for Patrik Laine seems like fun until you realize he makes $8.7M and hasn't scored 30 goals or played over 56 games in season since the Trump administration.
This uncertainty is preventing any trade talks from moving forward and the Jackets fulfilling their star's trade request.
