The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some huge additions on the blue line this summer, and now it's reportedly made Timothy Liljegren expendable.

In Toronto, the offense has always been a strong point behind the Core Four, but it became very clear this off-season that the team were intent on fixing the blue line, and they've done just that with the additions of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Chris Tanev and Jani Hakanpaa.
With Simon Benoit, Morgan Rielly, Timothy Liljegren and Jake McCabe already on the roster, it was only a matter of time until someone was deemed expendable, and now we may officially know who that is. After days of speculation, TSN's Chris Johnston has revealed that a trade for Timothy Liljegren could be coming anytime this off-season.
"We'll see if Timothy Liljegren maybe still gets traded. I know he was signed to a 2-year extension, but I don't think you can entirely rule out a trade in his circumstance yet. They're still going to keep chipping away at the roster."
Liljegren had another solid campaign in 2023/24, playing in 55 games and netting 3 goals and 23 points over that time, but given the need for toughness and the incoming names, it makes sense that he could be on the move. Until it happens, nothing is confirmed, with Morgan Rielly the only untouchable of the returning names, but for now, it appears as though Liljegren is the odd-man out.
