Ridiculous trade proposal suggests Mitch Marner could end up in Montreal

After a disappointing playoff campaign, Mitch Marner's name has been in trade proposals all off-season thus far, but this latest one may be taking it a step too far for Leafs fans. On social media, the account Bodog Casino's has offered the potential idea of Mitch Marner being moved to the rival Montreal Canadiens, even depicting him in the fierce rival's jersey in the post.

It's highly likely that this was a bait post to drive engagement, but looking deeper into the situation, there's just simply no way that this deal would be worth it for either team.

For Montreal, David Reinbacher, Ivan Demidov, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky are all untouchable, and beyond that, they simply have no one that matches the timeline of the Maple Leafs. The same is true of Marner, as he doesn't match the timeline in Toronto with free agency upcoming after the 2024/25 season, so don't read too much into the post, but if it were to happen, it would no doubt drive Maple Leafs fans mad.
