Keith Pelley, President of MLSE, made a major change Friday when he fired former President Bill Manning. Brendan Shanahan has officially been warned.

Manning was the President of the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL and of the soccer team the Toronto FC. It's the first major change Pelley makes since he took over on April 1st. This was a major warning for Brendan Shanahan that he could be next.
When Pelley took over as CEO and MLSE President, he made his voice clear, that he would not stand for losing and that he wanted a championship very soon.
Keith Pelley, whose first job in working directly for a sport franchise was President of the Argos, is now directly in charge of them for the time being.
Shanahan is entering the final year of his contract, and unfortunately for him, the Leafs have only managed one playoff series win in the nine years he has been working for the team. That simply is not good enough for Pelley, so Shanahan knows he will need to do whatever it takes to get the Leafs to make a deeper playoff run,
A question about a Pelley comment:

'We are not here to sell jerseys'

Does anyone think that was a shot at Shanahan and how maybe Shanny was been claiming the off ice business success of the team, deflecting from the on ice failures?

Shanahan is a winner, particularly while he was playing for the Detroit Red Wings, however that success has not translated into any during his time in Toronto. He will need to figure it out quickly, or this could be the final season he ever has in the Leafs organization.
