NHL insider Frank Seravalli shared his thoughts on the trade that sent former Ottawa Senators blueliner Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals.

Seravalli was stunned by the way this deal went down and didn't hold back his criticism of Ottawa's newly-minted management.
I thought that Jakob Chychrun trade was the move of the offseason. Someone is gonna need to explain that to me from an Ottawa perspective. I don't understand it at all and I've had a week to think about it and I still can't wrap my brain around it.
It was surprising what Ottawa got in return for Chychrun, especially considering what they initially gave up to acquire him from the Arizona Coyotes.
A couple of years ago it was a first and two seconds, and now Nick Jensen? I get that you're trading left shot for right shot and you're always gonna be at a disadvantage, but that's the best deal you could make for Jakob Chychrun? There's no way that's the best deal they could possibly make.

Chychrun did so much better with offensive minded players than defensive players in OTT. I wonder if Carbery will go Chych-Carlson for offense then let Marty-Roy take up those big defensive minutes then let Sandin-TvR pick up the slack anywhere else.
The Senators also received a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft as part of this trade, but that didn't change Seravalli's negative view of the deal. It seems like the team in America's capital fleeced Canada's captain in this deal.
