Detroit Red Wings in Max Pacioretty sweepstakes
The race to sign veteran forward Max Pacioretty, one of the top free agents available is heating up and the Detroit Red Wings are now being touted as one of the favorites to land the veteran, right alongside the Toronto Maple Leafs.
According to The Athletic's Arthur Staple, Detroit is interested in luring the former Montreal Canadiens star. However, it looks like the potential deals on the table are quite different depending on the team.
Insider David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period backed up a report by Nick Alberga about the Leafs' interest, noting that Toronto would offer Pacioretty a standard player's contract (SPC) instead of a professional try-out (PTO) contract if they come to an agreement.

But for the Red Wings, may only be willing to give Pacioretty a PTO contract, which wouldn't guarantee him a spot on our final roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season. He'd have to earn his place during training camp and then sign a standard contract to officially join the team.
Pacioretty had a tough time last season with the Washington Capitals, only playing in 47 games because of injuries, but he still managed 4 goals and 23 points. He even chipped in during the postseason, picking up an assist in four games.
At 35 years old and having captained the Canadiens for ten years, Pacioretty could be a solid veteran presence for us-and he might come at a bargain, too, considering he only made $2 million on a one-year deal last season.
