The hockey world is still mourning from the heartbreaking news of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's passing. The brothers were tragically struck by a drunk driver Sean Higgins while riding their bikes, a loss that has left a deep void in the hockey community.

John Tavares, the Toronto Maple Leafs' assistant captain, shared his thoughts on the tragedy via X, expressing the profound impact the loss has had on him and his family.
It's been difficult to process this devastating tragedy over the last couple of days. My family's and my heart ache for the Gaudreaus and their families. We send our deepest condolences.
Tavares's message reflects the collective grief felt across the hockey world. The Gaudreaus were not just a beloved family within the sport but were also known for their contributions and positive impact on those around them. They were an inspiration to small players everywhere, as they were constantly doubted because of their small stature, but defied the odds at every level.
Johnny, 31, was a star over eight seasons with the Calgary Flames, and then gave hope to a starving Columbus Blue Jackets fanbase by signing there in 2022. He ended his career with 743 points in 763 games and 33 in 44 playoff games.
He was a USHL champion, helped USA to a 2013 Gold medal in the World Juniors and propelled Boston College to an NCAA title as a true freshman in 2012. He also set the college hockey record with 80 points in 2014, en route to capturing the Hobey Baker award.
Aside from his skill, Johnny Hockey was first-class as evidenced by him winning the Lady Byng award for sportsmanship in 2017. Matthew, 29, never made the NHL, but was a longtime minor leaguer and had recently started a coaching career.
As fans and players struggle to come to terms with this loss, the outpouring of support from the and sympathy highlights the unity from everyone they touched. Rest in peace, Johnny and Matthew.
