The Oilers have not lived up to expectations so far this season as the team continues to be a mess in their own end almost giving away goals, while not being able to overcome the hole they dug with scoring. On top of that, the powerplay has not been the same and the penalty kill is in the lower portion of the league.
Unfortunately, for him and Edmonton, he has zero points in nine games. To be fair to him, Brown is coming off a season where he only played four games for the Washington Capitals due to him needing ACL surgery.
Part of Brown's contract stipulates that at the 10 game mark he is to be paid a $3,225,000 performance bonus, which is why his salary is set at $775,000.
The Oilers obviously expected production from Brown and have to be disappointed in the results. Brown was injured in the match up against the Dallas Stars, playing in just over six minutes of ice time.
