The Toronto Maple Leafs have not been off to a great start this year. In fact, their season in in danger of falling off the rails quickly. Part of their problems has come in goal, particularly with Ilya Samsonov. The Russian goaltender showed a lot of emotion after another tough start ended with him getting pulled early tonight.

Ilya Samsonov Slams Helmet In Frustration

Samsonov was pulled from his start against the Lightning tonight after he gave up four goals on just 12 shots. As he skated to the Leafs bench, the Russian goalie let us know how he was feeling.

Samsonov's Numbers Get Even Worse As Tough Season Continues

Following his early yank tonight, Samsonov's numbers on the season are looking not good. In fact that would be an understatement.
He has played in seven games this year, of which he started six. His record is 2-1-1 and he is currently responsible if the Leafs lose tonight as he gave up what currently stands as the game-winning goal. His goals against average is an abysmal 4.11 and his save percentage is sitting at .855. Those numbers might have been respectable in the 80s, but in today's NHL, that makes him one of the worst goalies in the league. The only other goalies that have struggled as much as him this year has been Edmonton's tandem of Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell.
