The Pittsburgh Penguins start to the 2023-24 season has been a strange one, and with their recent struggles, they've now lost a depth forward they picked up this past summer.
Despite being a key signing this summer, veteran forward Andreas Johnsson has yet to play a game in Pittsburgh this season, and now, he's officially departing the team immediately.
According to a recent report, Johnsson has taken the option of signing in his home country of Sweden, after inking a deal with Skellefteċ AIK in the Swedish Hockey League.
While heading overseas can often mean that a players career in the NHL is done, that's seemingly not the case here, as Johnsson is just 28-years of age, and has the potential to be a solid depth player in the NHL for years to come.
Johnsson is just a few years removed from having 105 points in a four year stretch, with career highs of 43 and 35 points for Toronto and New Jersey, and if he can head home and get healthy, there's a great chance he could be back one day.
