The Tampa Bay Lightning have been without their Vezina-winning goaltender all season. Today the team gave a major update on his status.
Lightning Give Major Update On Vasilevskiy
Today the Tampa Bay Lighting were finally able to give a significant update on goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. According to head coach Jon Cooper Vasilevskiy is nearing a return. A target date around American Thanksgiving has been set.
Tampa coach Jon Cooper says they're hoping to get Andrei Vasilevskiy back around U.S. Thanksgiving or so, says the star goalie's recovery and rehab going well
The Lightning are 5-3-3 with Vasilevskiy absent. This level of success has been made possible by the breakout success of Jonas Johansson in replacing Vasilevskiy. While Vasilevskiy will still absolutely be the main guy Johansson has taken some of the pressure off of his return.
When Vasilevskiy comes back the Lightning might look to work him in slowly. Generally, he would be playing every night but the Lightning are building to peak in the playoffs. With this in mind keeping Vasilevskiy as close to 100% as possible is the goal.
