The Toronto Maple Leafs have the forward group to make a Stanley Cup push, but on the blue line, this is a team that struggles, and it's becoming clear they want to change that perception.
A familiar team
According to Elliotte Friedman, the team have identified two key pieces that they'd love to bring in, and unsurprisingly, they come from General Manager Brad Treliving's old team.
I think they are looking for D you know the one I can see is Zadorov, & I'll bet you this if they can find a way to get Zadorov & Tanev, I bet you they would do it.
I bet you they would do both of them If Calgary was willing to do that I really believe it Now, I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but if you show me a path where that could occur, I could see it.
That comes from the latest edition of 32 Thoughts, and with the Flames struggling on the season and pushing for a potential rebuild, this could be a move that works out for both teams.
Two physical stars
While Toronto have had physical defenseman in recent years like Luke Schenn, they've struggled to find consistency at the position, but with both Tanev and Zadorov, they'd get toughness, size, physicality and leadership, and it could be a franchise altering move.
Ultimately, the Flames are likely to move one, if not both of them ahead of the trade deadline, and with a 2024 first-round pick and some talented young players to offer, this might just be the move that the Leafs need to make for a deep playoff run.
