The Edmonton Oilers have struggled to find consistent goaltending with their current core. New rumors have suggested they are looking at a Vezina Award-winning goalie to fill their biggest need.
Oilers Unsatisified With Current Goaltending Tandem
A recent rumor has suggested that the Edmonton Oilers are pushing to find a new option in the net. In the regular season, the Oilers are able to outscore a lot of teams and put themselves in the playoffs.
Once the playoffs begin and games get tighter and lower scoring the goaltending lets the team down. This has been a huge problem ever since Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl arrived in Edmonton.
Their current goaltenders Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner have shown flashes of high-level play. Unfortunately for the Oilers, they have not nearly been consistent enough. In comes a former Vezina winner to save the day.
Vezina Trophy Winner Linked To The Oilers
When the Oilers have fished around the trade market in the past one name has consistently popped up as an option. Linus Ullmark former Vezina Trophy winner and starting goaltender for the record-breaking Boston Bruins in 2022-23.
Ullmark has had a massive breakout since coming to Boston. However, he is now considered expendable with the younger and arguably just as good Jeremy Swayman behind him.
This means teams will continue to check in on him including the contending Oilers. With the Bruins still wanting to contend any offer would likely need to be too good to refuse for the Bruins to part with Ullmark.
If the Oilers truly believe they are just a goaltender away from being a Stanley Cup favorite it is a move they need to seriously consider.
