Bowman speaks on his decision to allow Holloway and Broberg sign with St. Louis

Bowman and the Oilers organization decided to allow Holloway and Broberg to move on and take the offer sheets provided to them from the St. Louis Blues. The Oilers will receive a second-round and a third-round pick for Holloway and Broberg respectively.

Throughout the week it appeared as if the Oilers were attempting to make moves to keep these two players. They moved Cody Ceci earlier this week in a trade with the San Jose Sharks in order to create some cap space. It looks like the Oilers decided that having cap space available and the draft picks were the route they rather go.

Today, we have heard from Stan Bowman, Oilers GM, about the decision to allow the two Oilers to accept and move on to the St. Louis Blues. This was shared via Gene Principe today on X:

The Oilers seem posed to look to the future, but still content for the Stanley Cup again this season. They are going to get younger, with the two draft picks now under their belt. They also did part ways with good players, but they were not performing to their potential.

Broberg, a 6'4" defenseman was the 8th pick overall in 2019. Over the last three years he has 81 total games of experience at the NHL level. It was during the Stanley Cup playoffs that Broberg shined which could account for why he was provided an offer sheet from the Blues.

Holloway was drafted in 2020 as the 14th overall pick. Over the last two years, he has tallied 89 games at the NHL level bouncing between the Oilers and the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL.

Both players look to be great additions to the Blues and should succeed. Their upside potential can give the Blues a run into the playoffs this coming season.
