Matthew Knies has undeniably become a powerful presence on the Maple Leafs team.

With a promotion to the first line, he has significantly contributed to their success. However, his playoff run might be cut short due to a brutal and unnecessary incident involving Sam Bennett.

Sam Bennett's Intentional Attempt to Injure Knies

A 2-0 lead may be in the cards for the Panthers, but it will unfortunately be overshadowed by controversy. Sam Bennett was caught intentionally trying to injure Knies during the game.
After pinning Knies to the boards, Bennett decided that wasn't enough and hurled Knies into the ground with a disturbing and unnecessary amount of force. Knies landed headfirst and was clearly disoriented from the brutal attack.
In a disgusting display of incompetence, bias or both, no penalty was called on the play. However, Bennett may still face much needed additional discipline for his actions.

Will the NHL Address the Incident?

Sure, The Panthers are known for their brutal and relentless playstyle, but they still must adhere to the rules, like every other team, and show proper respect and restraint towards the other team. This was a clear cause for penalty that was ignored, and it's absolutely deplorable that no penalty was called. The NHL needs to address this.
