The Panthers were inches away from letting in an empty net goal in Game 5, but after Matthew Tkachuk's heroic effort, his teammates let him down in a big way.

In Game Five, the Florida Panthers were on the verge of a fantastic comeback from a 4-1 deficit, but with an empty net in their own goal, it was always going to be an uphill battle. With an Oilers shot destined to enter the net, star forward Matthew Tkachuk would put his body on the line and make this ridiculous save with just inches to spare.
Unfortunately for the raucous crowd in Florida, the Panthers would allow the game sealing goal just seconds later, and now, footage has shown the dreadful effort that allowed Connor McDavid to swoop in and seal the game.
Tkachuk makes an all-time great goal-line save and Ekman-Larsson just...gives up on the play and lets McDavid score anyways.

With the Stanley Cup in the building, come on man.
The Panthers were down to just seconds left on the clock, so whether or not they would have scored is unknown, but with the chance to win the Stanley Cup and one of your leaders making the effort Tkachuk did, this type of effort from OEL was just dreadful. Now, the Panthers face the daunting prospect of heading back to Edmonton with a red-hot barn waiting and the best player in the world rolling, so if the Oilers can finish off the 3-0 comeback, this could become an even bigger talking point.
