Last year, the Montreal Canadiens made one of the best trades of the off-season when they landed Sean Monahan from the Calgary Flames plus a first-round pick as a salary cap dump.
An alternate move?
Reportedly however, this isn't how the deal was meant to go, as the Flames were eyeing up veteran winger Josh Anderson, with the two teams having a deal in place to send him to the Flames.
That trade fell apart when Nazem Kadri shocked the NHL world and joined the Flames as a free agent, with Montreal ending up with a solid season from Monahan, adding a first-round pick and keeping Anderson.
Another solid year from the veteran
Despite his production, Anderson has been constantly linked to major moves by the Canadiens, while GM Kent Hughes is seemingly unwilling to move him unless the package blows him away.
After staying with Montreal, Anderson put up another solid season with 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in 69 games, but at 29-years of age, he's someone to keep an eye on for the Canadiens on the trade market.
