The New York Islanders have relied on a style of play for a number of years, but their recent revelation from the GM has revealed changes are on the way.

After featuring in the Islanders for the better part of the past decade, time has come and gone in New York for the veteran pair of Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck, with GM Lou Lamoriello revealing in a recent New York Post interview that the team will move on from the two veterans.
«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»

Lamoriello had nothing but praise for the two veterans, but after neither passed 20 points in a season over the past six years, it was time to move on as the Islanders look to switch up their style of play to keep up with the modern style that now thrives in the NHL.
With both over the age of 30 and a new wave of talent coming through New York, this is the best time for Lamoriello to make this move, and if the team can add a significant piece at the trade deadline with their talented top line and elite level goaltending, this team may be a problem in the Eastern Conference in 2024/25.
