The Ottawa Senators acquired Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a conditional first-round pick in 2023, a conditional second-round pick in 2024, and a second-round pick in 2026 less than a year ago, and it seems the defenseman is reconsidering his future with the Senators.

Chychrun Not Interested in Signing Extension in Ottawa

Chychrun appears uninterested in signing a contract extension in Ottawa.
Per the streets, it seems the 'hometown novelty' has mostly worn off for Jakob Chychrun and his camp in Ottawa. Hearing his interest in being a Sen long-term has diminished greatly.

Very unlikely that he extends, far more likely that he's dealt before becoming a UFA #GoSensGo
Chychrun's contract ends after the current season, and the Senators could be interested in trading him after an extremely disappointing season in Ottawa.

Senators' Struggles Pushing Chychrun Out of Ottawa?

Currently, the Senators are at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. They've undergone significant changes this season, including replacing DJ Smith with Jacques Martin as interim head coach and hiring Steve Staios as general manager.
Despite these changes and all the talent in the team's roster, their chances of making it to the playoffs this year are close to none.
This could explain Chychrun's reluctance to stay with the Senators.
Steve Staios might consider trading him before the deadline, and Chychrun, with his contract ending soon, emerges as an interesting candidate.
"He's not really in any hurry to do anything, and he doesn't have to be. I just think they're trying to get a feel for what they can get for certain players plus help the group."
Do you think Chychrun will be traded?
