After the sudden firing of Ottawa Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion, the Senators are now looking for a replacement. One NHL insider gave a peek into who some of the favorite candidates could be.
Elliotte Friedman during his 32 Thoughts article threw around some names he has heard are in consideration.

There's been a lot of talk about Peter Chiarelli, but another name I'd throw in there is Tampa Bay director of hockey operations Mathieu Darche. Darche interviewed in Montreal while Andlauer still owned part of the Canadiens, so there is familiarity. Another person suggested Jason Spezza. Teams with legit candidates aren't always willing to give them up in-season. It will be up to Staios, but another possibility is the organization adding a «veteran hockey presence» in a non-GM role. There is going to be a ton of interest, despite the loss of this draft choice. Team is on the way up, Dorion left them far from barren.
Peter Chiarelli was the first name mentioned immediately after Dorion's firing. Darche and Spezza have since been thrown in by Elliotte Friedman. With so much reported interest the Senators are likely to take their time and weigh their options.
Reunion With A Legend
Jason Spezza is a legend in the city of Ottawa due to his playing tenure with the Senators. According to the report from Friedman, he could have an opportunity to continue his legacy in a new way.
Spezza has been working under Kyle Dubas since he retired from the NHL. He first was a special advisor in Toronto. When Dubas went off to Pittsburgh Spezza followed and became the Assistant General Manager. With Daniel Alfredsson already in the fold, the Senators have an opportunity to bring together several legends to help shape the next generation of Senators.
As the General Manager search kicks into high gear for the Senators watch for Spezza to get serious consideration.
