The Flyers have taken some big swings in their most recent drafts but one of their top prospects has decided to skip development camp.
Recent Top Picks
Over the past two drafts, the Philadelphia Flyers have selected Matvei Michkov, Cutter Gauthier, and Oliver Bonk all in the first round. Michkov and Gauthier were both drafted 7th and 5th respectively.
Michkov has many ties to Russia but despite this, he made it clear to the Flyers he would be willing to play for them. That may be a good thing as their top 5 pick may not want to play for the Flyers.
It was announced that Cutter Gauthier will be missing development camp. Flyers GM Danny Briere does not seem too worried about this though.
When Briere was asked about Gauthier missing camp, he responded with this.
"Cutter was invited, but he decided not to come. We assume it's because he played a lot of hockey with his participation in the World Championship. We'll find out a little bit more. We're trying to figure out why he didn't want to come, but at this point, I'm not too worried about that." - Danny Briere
Gauthier had a busy year last year playing for Boston College and Team USA on two separate occasions. In the NCAA, he posted 39 points in 32 games. In the World Junior Championships, he posted 10 points in 7 games. Finally and most recently, he scored 7 goals and 9 points in 10 World Championship games.
He will be looking to make the Flyers out of training camp next season.
