Perhaps one of the more interesting things to come out of the Dubas and Shanahan fallout was the emergence of Pittsburgh as an option for Dubas. The historic franchise cleaned house recently, and with a general manager vacancy wide open, it seems that they have loads of interest in the newly available Kyle Dubas.
Dubas Met With Penguins Superstar
As the Penguins narrow down their GM search, it appears as though Kyle Dubas has joined the mix. A recent report now details Dubas' recent meeting with Penguins star Sidney Crosby, which could be an indication of the organization's preference right now.
"A source with knowledge of the situation told DK Pittsburgh Sports that Dubas, an apparent finalist for the GM vacancy, was at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex for a session that extended late into Tuesday night. Sidney Crosby also was there and was believed to be among those who met with Dubas. Members of the Penguins' public relations staff also were on hand."
If the meeting went late into Tuesday night, it's clear that both sides are serious about these negotiations. A new perspective in Pittsburgh such as Dubas could be exactly what they need, and it looks like the Penguins organization agrees.
Crosby has been an integral part of the Pens for the last decade-plus, so it's no surprise that his input is being considered when looking for a new GM. The future Hall of Famer's input is surely valued in meetings such as those had with Dubas, so it's important Dubas makes a good impression.
Whether or not the meeting got both sides closer to a deal is unknown, but there's surely mutual interest. Let's wait and see how this develops over the coming days.
