Steve Dangle and the rest of the SDPN crew brought up an interesting point of discussion in their most recent episode of the podcast. They brought up how so many super star players in the NHL eventually end up finishing their career with a team no one ever would have expected. One example they gave is Martin Brodeur who finished his career with the St. Louis Blues. Today they brought Sidney Crosby into this conversation.
The Penguins have indicated that they are planning on staying competitive as long as Crosby and Malkin are still on the team but at this point attempting to keep the team competitive may be detrimental to the long term success of the team. The team is already without their 1st round pick this year although it is top-10 protected. However, it is possible that the penguins will finish bottom ten in the league, deferring the pick until next year. This could be the worst case scenario for the team as next year's pick will be unprotected and they could be even worse.
