The Pittsburgh Penguins have been one of the most successful NHL franchises of the modern era, but with a potential rebuild on the way, signs already aren't looking good.

Shockingly low attendance after the Penguins fall out of playoff contention

After selling Jake Guentzel at the trade deadline, the Penguins essentially gave up on the 2023-24 season, and after so much success, the fans clearly aren't handling their struggles well.
With the team hosting the San Jose Sharks, some fans captured photos of the arena, and it's safe to say that it's not a good sign for the front office moving forward.
Fans in Pittsburgh have been regarded as some of the most dedicated in the entire NHL, but it's clear that now without a direction, despite one of the biggest stars the game has ever seen, the fans are already upset with the organization.
This sets the Penguins front office up for a massive summer, where the will need to pick a direction for the future and go with it, and while it may mean trading Sidney Crosby, they need to be patient about building for the future. Ultimately though, even during a rebuild, front offices need to give fans something to be excited about, and they don't have that right now, so this could be a worrying trend moving forward.
