Suter played for the Dallas Stars last season, but general manager Jim Nill elected to buy him out of the final year of his contract. As such, he became an unrestricted free agent. Clearly, the Blues were willing to give him the best offer he got, as that is where he decided to sign today. The deal is for league minimum, but does come with possible bonuses.
The 39-year-old has had quite the career, appearing in 1444 regular season games and scoring 681 points, including 105 goals to this point. However, he has shown clear signs of age-related decline the past two seasons. This is not particularly surprising considering his age and how many games he's played.
Suter will likely be reduced to a bottom pair role with the Blues. Furthermore, this will very likely be his last year in the league as he will be turning 40 in January. Will he finally manage to win a Stanley Cup? Only time will tell.
