After a disappointing playoff run in the OHL, Shane Wright is set to make his return to professional hockey. The Seattle Kraken, however, have made a surprising decision regarding where he'll be playing.
Wright Assigned to the AHL
As the Kraken have officially clinched a playoff spot, it would be logical for them to bolster their roster in any way they can.
Shane Wright, their fourth overall pick in the 2022 entry draft, became available to join the team after his elimination from the OHL playoffs on Thursday.

Despite this opportunity, the Kraken have chosen to send him to Coachella Valley of the AHL.
Wright's Disappointing Playoff Performance
After being traded to the Windsor Spitfires for a hefty sum of seven draft picks and two players, the top-seeded team in the OHL Western Conference was shockingly swept by the eighth-seed Kitchener Rangers.
Wright's contribution of just three points in four games couldn't prevent the Spitfires' season from ending on a sour note.
This lackluster showing might be the reason the Kraken decided to assign Wright to the AHL. It could also be related to his contract, as he is eligible for an entry-level slide.
Regardless of the reasoning, the Kraken have made it clear they don't want Wright in the NHL right now. Given his recent performance in the OHL playoffs, it's hard to fault them for that choice.
