Recently, both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl recently hit the 300-goal milestone, they have become the fastest active players to reach this milestone. Draisaitl scored his 300th goal in a game against the Coyotes on March 27th, during his 630th career game. McDavid scored his 300th goal during his 563rd career game.

Alexander Ovechkin currently holds the record for the fastest player to reach 300 goals, he scored his 300th during 473rd game, he is closely followed by Steven Stamkos at 550 games, McDavid and Sidney Crosby both reached the milestone in 622 games, with Draisaitl completing the top 5. However, Leafs star Auston Matthews might join them soon, by pushing Draisaitl out of the top 5.

Matthews is currently only 4 goals away from hitting 300 goals. He has only played in 474 games, he should reach the milestone by the end of the season. Sadly, he missed the opportunity to beat Ovechkin, but he can easily secure the number 2 spot, ahead of Stamkos, McDavid, Crosby and Draisaitl.
Matthews has managed to score 30-goals in all seven seasons, he scored more than 35 goals six times, more than 40 goals four times, and has scored more than 50 goals just once. Matthews currently sits at 37 goals this season, if he wants to hit the 300 goal milestone, that would mean that he needs to hit his 5th 40+ goal season.
Since starting his career in the 2016-2017 season, Matthews has shown a lot of skill. He has won the Calder Trophie for rookie of the year, if he can maintain his current momentum, he can easily hit 300 goals this season?
If Matthews scores 300 goals this season, he will become the seventh-youngest player to achieve this feat. The six players who accomplished this at a younger age are Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk, Mike Bossy, Steve Yzerman, and Ovechkin. This accomplishment would place him ahead of notable players such as Michel Goulet, Jari Kurri, Stamkos, Jaromir Jagr, and McDavid.
