Some sad new for a former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs as he's been released from a professional tryout contract he signed with another team.
2022-23
Zach Aston-Reese played 77 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He was not re-signed when his one year contract was up. Not only did the Leafs pass on signing him, but so did every other team in the league. Aston-Reese managed to get a professional tryout contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. However, he was released from it today.

Unfortuantely, if no NHL team was willing to sign Aston-Reese before training camps began, it's not likely they'll do so now after a failed PTO. Nothing is impossible, but Aston-Reese, 29, may have to look at starting the season either on an AHL contract, or in Europe.
